Before this collection, I remember seeing some of the games on the "of the Killer" series on itch.io. I probably was looking for a download of Space Funeral or just looking at thecatamines' games, but I remember downloading one of them, but I forgot to play it. When I saw the Anthology, I decided thecatamines should be payed for his work, so I bought it. It still took some time for me to play it, but that was just me being kinda stupid, but when I decided to play it I spent a whole day (sorta) just consuming this and it just might be one of those things that are just part of my organism (this is a synonym for "This is my personality now and I wanna be annoying about it, but I don't wanna be annoying, so I'll just try to bring up when possible").

"Anthology of the Killer" is a collection of 9 games and a gallery.
Upon opening the game, you're throw right outside of a museum that is presenting these games to the public. In a sense, this is just a playable loader, but it's in-universe and it's really charming!! You have to run around and find the doors that corresponds to each game to play them. There is nothing stoping you to start on any of the titles, but I think playing them in order is probably the best. If you're ever confused what is the correct order, remember to look on the list in the corridor near the room of "Voice of the Killer"

In every game in the series we mostly follow BB, she is a zine writer that is constantly chased down by psycho murderers!! She writes about the occult and because of that she tends to get in some unlucky situations, sometimes agaist her own volition. Turns out just anyone could kill a person and make that their personality, however, none of them could compare to THE Killer, that's for sure!
Each game has a different premise for the story. Like, in "Droll of the Killer", BB goes to a weird swimming pool a bus has as a destination, but in "Eyes of the Killer", BB is forced to do theather. But this does not mean they aren't connected! It's pretty obvious when past occurences are acknowledge, but I find it cool when it happens. It feels like this is an interactable mini-series you would watch on TV for halloween.

The control scheme is pretty simple. You can move with the arrow keys/wasd, comfirm with the space bar/enter key and pressing esc will bring a menu that asks if wanna leave. Finding new dialogue happens by just going around and finding these eye ballons. I really love the writing because it's kinda silly at times, but I can tell that thecatamines doesn't want to go into parody territory. There is huge chunks of the game where I felt genuinely uncomfortable. The best way I can describe this is as I'm in a dream and everything doesn't make sense, but it somehow makes sense in the same. There isn't really any part of the game where I went "I know where this is going" and I suppose that's a much more effective horror than if I was jumpscared 50 times in a row. The soundtrack really helps with this feeling. Seriously Tommy Tone did an incredible job, like I think this game's whole OST would play in one those weird dreams that feels way too real. Make sure to check their bandcamp (of the Killer OST is there and it's free to download btw)!!!

In conclusion, I really liked Anthology of the Killer!! Most would say it's kinda simple, but it really resonated with me. Althought it might not be for everyone, I think this is an game more people should try it out!! It's not even that long, like, it might be around 5 hours I think, so if you ever want some piece of media to fuck around during halloween (or whenever idk), listen to my telepathic call and play Anthology of the Killer!!!!
