21/06/2024 Overview of a popping puzzle game and other cool things
Hello hello and Welcome back to the blog! Hope everyone has been having a great happy pride so far!
I honestly wasn't expecting to write a new entry so soon or, well, to update at all (LoL....). I guess working on the art gallery for so long made me think any other update would go sssssslooooooooow as well, but I think a have quite a bunch of stuff to talk about (yiiipe)!!! Well then, let's start!!
Everyday thinking of chu:
Yo! Remember when I brifiely talked about the Puyo Fever 2 ds copy that it was comming from the mail? Guess what? I finally got it!!!
Owning an actual copy of a japanese game is so surreal! I look at the "cero" rating and I have to take a moment to process it. The quality of this one is pretty nice, actually. Like, I guess wehn you're buying an old game you mostly expect just getting the game alone, but this one is not only in an amazing quality (it feels brand new) and ALSO, there are a few things inside. There is a survey, a flyer and the instruction booklet!!
^^^^ I noticed one the questions has puyo titles as answers. I'm not sure what exactly you would win by filling this up and sending to, ummmm, somewhere??? Or maybe you don't win anything at all. I'm not sure.
^^^^ this flyer (not sure if this is the correct name for those) seems to be advertising a few sega games that were released on the ds, close to when PPF2 was released to the system. The games show are (left to right): "Kōchū Ōja Mushiking: Greatest Champion e no Michi DS", "Sonic Rush", "Puyo Puyo Fever 2 [CHU!]" and "Super Monkey Ball: Touch & Roll". Kinda funny this has two japanese exclusive games and two that, well, aren't.
^^^^ Here is a few pics of the instruction booklet. It basically explains every game menu and mechanics. The very first thing show is that you can play the game with the touch screen alone. I'm still an amature to understanding japanese, although I do get one thing or two, but seeing the illustrations alone makes me understand a few things. I'm not sure how close this is to the other versions (obviously the ps2 edition doesn't talk about the DS), but I find it cool how it explains multiplayer. I never got to use download play and this sort of stuff, so seeing a brief explanation is cool. From my understanding, the limit to play multiplayer is up to 6 players. I guess you have to be 10 cms appart for it to work? or maybe it just means that anything more than that won't work. Really cool stuff!
^^^^ Took these last photos just to show the cartridge and the icon on the 3DS. I like the cartridge's artwork, it's simple, but also really charming!!
Now lemme talk a little bit about the game. It took me a while to understand where "new game" and "continue" where, so I accidently deleted a save file with a lot of points. Like, I think it was over 9000 (- -;). I mean, I was planning to play this anyway, so it's fine!
I saw that the characters give you a letter every now and then. The first letter you get is from Amitie. She introduces herself and explain a little about the game (I only understood, like, one third of the text LoL). The other letters I got were from other characters after playing the story mode. I'm not sure if interacting with other characters (oh yeah, you can do that!), using items or playing endless mode gives you more letters, but I'll see.
I've also been playing the game every now and then! I played Raffina's RunRun and WakuWaku courses at the moment of writting this and I actually understood the storyline quite a bit. I think it's needless to say that this game plays amazingly as well! Everything is pretty responsive like the other Puyo Puyo ds ports, so Yeah I really liked it!!
I'm trying to not use the PS2 fantranslation or the Puyo Nexus' page, just to see how much I can understand without it. It's sorta just a challenge for myself, but I do suppose I'll have to look stuff up to 100%, but I'll do my best!
I'm pretty happy to own this. It might be a bit silly(LoL), but I think it's really cool!
Chi's Sweet Shrine:
As you have already seen, I am making a shrine page and *DRUMROLLLLLLLLLLLLLL* part of it is out now! You can see it right now! I still have a few more things that I want to add, but I felt releasing this would be good.
As you can see, everything seems pretty "scattered" around and I will explain why! So, I like exploring neocities a bunch, so it wasn't long until I noticed pages that were way different than mine. They didn't seem to have a body or a container like mine has, but there was stuff left, right and everywhere they wanted! It was until I read Mario Network that I decided I should try experimenting a bit. Since I don't want to redo any of the already existing pages, I thought that I could try using it on a shrine, so then I could mess around more for a special page feel more special!! Surprisingly, it wasn't as hard as I thought. I didn't got it perfectly, of course, but it wasn't that bad!
Hopefully I will get to add everything that I want, but until then, I hope you'll like the page!
I already said this on my neocities account, but just to be sure, in case some of the images/boxes are looking off, try changing your browser's zoom until the Chi pic is slightly overlapping the box with the title.
Madou Monogatari 3 (PC-98) has been translated!!!!!:
That's right, you can finally play the entire Madou Monogatari trilogy's PC-98 port in english!!!!Once again, thank @YuviApp and @SnowyAria for their amazing hard work!!! If you haven't played the Madou Monogatari games before, then this is a great opportunity to try it out! or maybe this could be a great way to rediscover this trilogy and prepare yourself for Madou Monogatari 4!
Anyway, I'm grateful for these translations to be a reality!
Cool phrases from videogames that I remember sometimes:
This might be the weirdest subject to talk about at all, but I have been thinking about it these past few days, so I wanted to talk about this.
Basically, have you ever heard a phrase that you really like and you normally associate with something expecific? Maybe it was used in an ad, like a slogan or something? Well, I remember I few related to videogames. I'm not 100% sure if the ones I'm gonna talk about are slogans per say, that's why I'm calling them "cool phrases", but I hope you'll find this interesting as well:
"Popping Puzzle Fun" (Puyo Puyo Fever era):
I think this one could be considered a slogan, but I'm not sure, because as far as I've seen, it's only present in some artworks, like the wallpapers and, surprisingly, even on PPF2 box art! Also, I'm pretty sure it's only present on the fever era stuff (Fever 1 to 15th anniversary).
"Popping Puzzle Fun" by itself is pretty simple and it might sound kinda redundant, but for some reason I really like it! I guess it just has a nice ring to it, dispite it being 3 words and considering most of this stuff is japanese only, the fact that it's in english just adds to the charm!
A cool little fun fact that I found is: one of Amitie's alts in Puyo Puyo Quest is literally named Popping Amitie and her design is literally the same exact one from Fever 1!
"Is this legal?" (LSD Dream Emulator):
I don't remember when I found this, but I really like this commercial for LSD Dream Emulator. I really like how everything is set up, it explains the game completly, but I appreaciate the dude at the beggining. As far as I know the "void guy"'s footage is unique to this commercial. It's so ominous and weird, no background music, a black background, just a head of a guy in the void asking something you probably never thought about a game: "Is this legal?". While this line was probably made to poke fun on the game's title, it honestly adds a lot to LSD's weirdness. The text show right after apparently means "This isn't a game", which would be a crazy response to give to anyone in real life LoL. I also love how the void head guy giggles at the end!
"If I was a demon, would you call me a friend?" (Megami Ibunroku Persona):
Dispite not playing the original Persona, I really love everything around it. It's hard to explain but the game has a feeling of a mistery 90s show that uses a lot of pratical effects and you can't help yourself but think it looks the coolest thing ever. It really has it's own weird personality, and that includes everything really, specially this commercial.
Not only the fact it's in live action, but the protagonist saying something so edgy, yet that it fits, is so cool. P1 and the two P2 are the only Persona games that you fight actual demons and it's clear that your personas are based on them. This reminds me how the morden Persona games depicts the protagonists' awekening as making them look kinda creepy and insane, so I think this line still fits!
There is a second commercial that shows Maki and she says something like "even if I was a demon, could you say that you're into me?" (I think "would you say you love me?" works too, but I'm not sure which sounds better and less weird) and I like this one too, specially because Maki is pretty important to P1's plot , but I do have to say I prefer the protag's version better, not sure why I just think it sounds cool.
"Don't be a hero. Experience the love. Experience Moon" (Moon: Remix RPG Adventure):
I really like Moon. I dunno how to explain but this, but exploring the world and giving love to people warms my heart.
I can't find any trailers or artworks with the quote above, but I've noticed it appears in the games' description, so you can easily find it on steam and such, but I found that it appears and it's own page in the developers' website.
To anyone that doesn't know much about Moon, this line can be kinda odd. Like "why I shouldn't be the hero?", because, well, heroes are the good guys that fight evil dudes. But after playing the game for a few minutes you will realize what they mean. You're not the hero of Moon. The hero is a jerk that invades peoples' houses, kills innocent creatures and doesn't really care about anyone and the Moon doesn't want you to be like that. Don't be a jerk, talk to people, help their problems, save the cratures, be patient and spread the love.
While I know Moon isn't a game for everyone, I really like the game's message and this slogan captures it perfectly.
I really need to continue this game...
"A 'mission clear' type action game: Evangelion" (Neon Genesis Evangelion N64)
This commercial for NGE 64 is honestly pretty cool. It shows what the game is gonna be, even though it's pretty damn quick, while classical music plays on the background and a woman explains what the game is in a simple and kinda generic way, but I think it fits. Like, I know she is basically saying "this game is this and that, please buy it", but I like how she specifies that it's a "mission clear type action game" and not only an "action game". I haven't played NGE 64 but something I know is that it changes play styles for every mission, so it makes sense it's a "mission clear" type game. Besides, I think that works with Evangelion too. You can see in a few occasions that what's important is to kill the attacking angel and not the pilots' well being, so yeah it fits.
If been thinking a little here and I wonder if this game could be considered a mini game collection and I think that's kinda funny, to be honest LoL.
"Kids, growups and even young women", "Weird games or moving RPGs?" & "Strange, funny and heartrending" (Mother 2/Earthbound, Mother 1+2 & Mother 3):
You may wonder why I'm not putting "No tears until the end" from Mother 1's commercial, but it's actually easy to explain. I don't see much people talking about the three slogans above, so I'll talk about them here.
Mother 2's slogan "Kids, growups and even young women" from the three different commercials might sound kinda odd, but after remembering this is from the 90s, I think it's pretty cool how it basically says "this game is for everyone and anyone". Doesn't matter who you are, what matter is how this game makes you feel and that's lovely. Also, it's pretty cool how the first commercial for Mother 1+2 not only uses that line again, it even adds "All over again!".
Talking about Mother 1+2, the other three commercials have their very own slogan: "Weird games or moving RPGs?". I dunno why I remember this one a lot, since I'm not really sure what they are refering about? My guess they're talking about the fact this game is for a portable console. I think I just like how the commercials go, showing things important from the games, always starting with Ness and ending with Giygas. The line "An evil heart" with the subtitles just being ellipsis also rocks!
Mother 3's slogan from it's five whole commercials (yeah I tried to extend this on purpose LoL) is probably the best way to explain Mother 3, althought the lack of gameplay may look a bit unprofessional and weird, but Itoi's commitement to let Mother 3's identity to be a complete mistery at the time of it's release is honestly pretty remarkable from an artistic point of view and I repect that.
Oh wow, this segment has gone on for quite a while now! I don't remember any other cool lines at the moment so I'm gonna stop and continue in another blogpost if I ever remember/find more of those.
Also I really hope this wasn't borring LoL. I know it's kind of a whatever topic, but I like those sort of small details.
The last thing I wanna say is to recommend this cool video I watched yesterday. The name is Weird Art, Mixed Media & Unrestricted Access to the Internet. It talks about the weird artworks that you see every now and then, and I honestly love it! As an artist myself and also someone who wants to make cool videogames, it made me think about the sort of stuff I wanna produce and the things I like. It's a cool watch, but just a disclaimer that it can be graphic, althought it's mostly claymation stuff, so it isn't a problem, but just to let you know.
So, I don't have much more stuff to talk about so I guess I'll wrap it up here. Once again, I hope everyone is having a happy pride and a happy june. There were some crazy good game announcements this month, so I hope everyone is happy with any of the them as well. I'm pretty excited with the new Mario & Luigi and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, so I honestly understand the feeling LoL. I also hope we get any Puyo Puyo 8 or Madou 4 news, but it's better to be patient.
Anyway, thank you for reading this and see ya next time!!!
